I love natural form and was inspired by the shape and scale of the top of a poppy seed head I found growing on my allotment.
I thought the poppy seed head looked sculptural and that it would make a really interesting stud earring.
I carefully dried it out over a few months and then I cast it directly using a sand mould and molten silver. I then had a mould made of it so I could replicate it using the process of lost-wax-casting.
Here I have cast the poppy seed heads in sterling silver and made them into solid silver stud earrings with the addition of a sterling silver pins and butterfly backs. I've added a touch of black oxide to accentuate the shape and add interest.
The earrings are roughly round, but slightly irregular in shape, which I believe adds to their charm. They measure 6.5 mm at their widest point and are a good size for everyday wear. The studs are not hallmarked because they are under the weight for hallmarking.
These stud earrings would make a lovely present for a special person, a friend or for yourself.
